'Tis The Season

The 2012 Nike Christmas Basketball lineup, dropping this Wednesday (Lebron/Kobe/Durant).  How does it stack up to the past few X-Mas releases?  I say its second best...

The 2011 collection was the worst (the Lebron 9 was the only saving grace)...

The best so far has been the 2010. It's hard to pick a favorite; the simple Bron 8, loud KD 3 & legendary "Grinch" Kobe 6.

Hyper-extended

Kobe dropped his first signature shoe for the 2005-2006 season, but it didn't stop Mamba from donning other models with his Shizoko logo on it...

Nike's big Hyperdunk push in 2008 was centered around Kobe wearing the shoe bearing his logo.

Kobe wore a PE version of the shoe, featuring patent leather on the toe instead of full grain leather.

KB to KD

After previewing the entire Nike Kobe collection (AZK 1-7, Huarache 2K4 & Kobe HyperDunk), we take a quick retrospective of Kevin Durant's kicks.

Peep the evolution of the KD line here.

The Beginning...

Starting our Kobe Bryant retrospective, the first Nike signature shoe for the Black Mamba dropped in 2006, but not before a slew of predecessors from the Swoosh.

After a "sneaker free agency period" after leaving adidas, Kobe rocked a handful of Air Jordan models before discovering the Huarache 2K4 in 2004.

You can find more pics of this shoe here from this past April feature.

Merry XI-Mas

Brand Jordan's annual retro XI release was today...did you get your "B-Reds"?

I'm holding off this year.  I'm opting for the shoe coming out tomorrow instead...

Bear Down Part II

We haven't seen a Chicago Bears-themed Derrick Rose shoe since the 1.5.  Looks like we might be have another one...the 3.0 in a Halas Hall colorway. With Nike carrying the NFL licensing rights, not sure if these will release.

8 Is Great

Coming soon...the Nike Kobe 8.  As Nike's lightest hoop shoes at 9.6 ounces, the shoe features Engineered Mesh for a natural feel/fit and Lunarlon midsole, getting away from the Flywire and Zoom Air.

So Fresh & So Clean

One of my latest pick-ups is the New Balance 1600.  Unlike other NB models like the 996, 1300 and 1500, the 1600 doesn't get much play from sneakerheads.

The much-anticpated Boylston Trading Company trio fell thru...and the Heritage Blue colorway has come and gone & the red Ferrari pair sitting on the shelves of most sneaker shops.

But the lack of hype suits me fine. This grey suede pair is right up my alley.

If you didn't know, the 1600 is the sequel to the 1500 model back in the 1990's.

Blue Roses

Dropping sometime this spring, the adidas Derrick Rose 3.5.  Watch for Tony Allen of the Memphis Grizzlies to rock these sometime in the new year, with D Rose still sidelined.

Koston Me A Fortune

Probably my favorite Nike SB product to drop the past couple of years has been the Eric Koston signature SB shoe.  The quality on the suede is top notch and the fit is much better than the P-Rod for my non-skating self.

But now Nike has teamed with NSW to put out this Koston x AM 90...combining it with my fav Air Max shoe.

The heel portion and mudgaurd mimicks the AM90 silhouette, with "SB" & "Koston" hits instead of the traditional Air Max markings.

The $110 retail price is a bit steep, but if you can swing on the low (like I did) its worth the investment!

The Air Jordan XX8

Today Brand Jordan officially unveiled the 28th installment of the Air Jordan line.  At first glance, it looks like a cross between the Gary Payton "Glove" shoe from the 1990s (ironically retroing soon) and Under Amour's Cam Newton trainer.

After calling the 23rd installment the "XX3", Brand Jordan called the next four editions the AJ 2009-AJ 2012. Now it's back to the Roman Numerals.

Your thoughts on the shoe?  I like how they are pushing the envelope.  Russell Westbrook is wearing them in a game tomorrow, so I'll be watching.

What's funny is that more people at the launch event were probably too busy looking at these.....lol.
