Nike Futbol, Part One
In 57 days, the world's most popular sport kicks off its most regal event, the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. While soccer in the US doesn't have the frenzied following it does in other countries, this premier event seems to captivate the world every four years.
I'd like to spend the next three days looking at Nike's efforts on products and campaigns geared for this year's World Cup. Thursday we will highlight the premiere soccer cleat in the game (the Nike Mercurial Vapor) and Friday we will cover some of the World Cup footwear releases from Nike.
But today we will feature the Nike x St Alfred World Cup pop-up store (hat tip, Panicstreak; pics courtesy of Chicagoist).
Located in Wicker Park, St Alfred (STA) is the premiere sneaker shop in Chicago. If you're visiting the CHI, you'll find the best selection of sneakers, fitteds & gear here. It's only appropriate that STA will host this World Cup pop up store right next door to their regular shop.
Opening tomorrow through Sunday, the store will feature footwear, gear and jerseys from the Nike Sportwear "Six" Collection. This Sportwear collection features the work of artists from six different countries: Brazil (Nunca), England (James Jarvis), France (So Me), the Netherlands (Delta), South Africa (Kronk) and the United States (LA's own Mister Cartoon).
Chicago artist Cody Hudson, owner & director of Struggle Inc, will have six new pieces of his artwork on display at the store.
Here are some pics from the opening night of the store, thanks to High Snobiety.
Futbol Part Two tomorrow -- the Nike Mercurial Vapor...
